Cleaning Tip #2: Do not buy bulk. As we explain regarding decluttering closets and pantries (and the 50% rule) generally, you have no need for 4-6 months worth of cleaning supplies when you are trying to sell your house in 30 days or less. To sell your house smart, we discourage over-sized, bulk buying of anything for your house, including cleaning products. As a bonus, think of it as less money spent now and less stuff to pack when you move!
Smells Kill Sales.
Cleaning Tip #3: Keep in mind that the correct clean for real estate success requires the absence of odors. Eliminate odors, do not try to cover them up. If the odor persists (for example, from a pet stain), then the odor source must be specifically addressed and eliminated (or the offending odor will return).
Household odors from pets, damp/mold, cooking smells, etc. will turn off prospective buyers and eat your equity. But chemical odors from grocery store brand cleaners eat equity, too. Covering up with contrived odors, such as baking cookies, air fresheners, etc. just does not work. And instead draws extra attention to the offending odor and the attempted cover up . Remember, eliminate the odor and whenever possible eliminate the source of the odor (unless it is a household pet!). With buyers, the nose knows!
With Pets, Stain and Odor Removal is Better But Prevention is Best.
Cleaning Tip #4: Speaking of pets, we know this to be true. Buyers love their own pets, but they do not even like yours.
Because a pet in the house suggests pet-related odors and damage, including common indoor dog and cat "accidents." As with odors, be sure that the cleaning products you use eliminate the underlying source of stain and odor without including harsh chemicals.
